Richard Mofe-Damijo Advises Basketmouth on Nollywood Debut

As famous Nigerian comedian Basketmouth prepares to make his Nollywood debut with the film A Ghetto Love Story, veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) offers valuable advice.

The 63-year-old Nollywood icon recently shared words of wisdom, urging Basketmouth to seek guidance from established industry figures like fellow comedian Ayo Makun, also known as AY.

RMD, a respected figure in the Nigerian film industry, encouraged Basketmouth to consult with Nollywood heavyweights such as Funke Akindele, Mo Abudu, AY, and Kunle Afolayan.

“Congratulations on your new film, A Ghetto Love Story. I thought I’d call you, hail you first, and share some advice. You’re entering a field where people are already well-established. You’ve got to make your mark. This is not comedy or a skit; this is a film,” he said.

“When you step in, seek out those well-grounded in the industry. People like Funke Akindele, Mo Abudu, AY, Kunle Afolayan, and other top figures. Reach out to them and learn from them. Don’t just jump in without respecting those who’ve paved the way.”

This advice is especially significant considering Basketmouth and AY’s history. The two comedians had been estranged for 17 years but reconciled last October after Basketmouth publicly apologized, seeking to mend their relationship.

AY, who made his Nollywood debut in 2014 with 30 Days in Atlanta, has since produced successful films like A Trip to Jamaica, Christmas in Miami, and Merry Men.
