A new report by software subscription service Setapp reveals Instagram as the top mobile app in 2024, achieving a remarkable popularity score of 90.
With 696 million downloads and an impressive average rating of 4.5, Instagram remains at the forefront of social media and e-commerce, demonstrating its strong user engagement and market adaptability.
Setapp’s analysis covered various app categories, including social media, messaging, gaming, and shopping, evaluating metrics such as downloads, user ratings, and overall satisfaction. The study utilized data from the Google Play Store, Apple App Store APIs, and third-party analytics. The report emphasized that apps that excel innovate and swiftly respond to user needs and market trends.
“Instagram’s leading position, marked by its high download figures and strong rating, reflects its capacity for innovation and alignment with e-commerce trends, ensuring continued user engagement,” the report noted.
TikTok
TikTok follows closely with 654 million downloads and a slightly superior rating of 4.6, earning an 85. Its appeal, particularly to younger users, is driven by its engaging short-form video content and trend-based interactions.
Facebook ranks third, with 553 million downloads and a rating of 4.0, achieving an 83. Despite mixed reviews on privacy, its extensive features, such as Groups, Marketplace, and integrated messaging, sustain a large user base.
WhatsApp leads in the messaging category with 475 million downloads and an average rating of 4.55.
CapCut
Video editing app CapCut is in fifth place, with 389 million downloads and a rating of 4.55.
Other apps making the top ten include Telegram, Snapchat, Subway Surfers, Zoom, and shopping platform Temu, each offering various features to meet user preferences.
